Another one learning to drive and landing the lead in the school play. And then, the curveball: a cancer diagnosis in the family. Jeremy shares all of it here, openly and warmly, to make a simple but important point. Life is full of transitions planned and unplanned. One of my favorites is the transition to Fall in Southern Indiana. We enjoy cooler weather, the energy students bring with their return to campus, breathtaking foliage, and of course the start of football season.
Our family has experienced a lot of transitions this year. My wife and I are watching our oldest daughter reach adulthood, begin dating and immerse herself in collegiate life. Our schedules are packed helping our youngest daughter fill her driving log, and supporting her performance choir, as she rehearses the lead in the school’s Fall production. It’s been a busy and joyous time.
However, life also has a knack for throwing curveballs — unplanned and unwelcome transitions. My mother’s breast cancer diagnosis took us all on an emotional journey. Thankfully, with courage, determination and faith, she is now on the other side of her treatment and is a breast cancer survivor.
These events are not unique to any of us, but they move us along a journey, choices are made, experiences are had, which weave together our individual stories. With so many people in our lives — personally and professionally — there’s a multitude of transitions going on all around us. Big, small, happy, sad, planned and unplanned.
